God’s Plan

Heads down, eyes glued to the beach in search of God’s tiny treasures hidden by the moistened sand. Had Janice not instructed me to look up I would have missed a small formation of pelicans flying silently below a deep blue sky on their way to somewhere. Except for the scene’s striking beauty, I couldn’t help but wonder why God wanted me to see a flock of birds flying unnoticed above my head. His photo album reveals that much is happening in the world, and at the same time! Yet it’s difficult to discern whether those happenings connect to each other.

So, I wonder.

I wonder if God fits the happenings together in some way. Maybe things are more than they seem. Even though their flight seemed insignificant, a few pelicans inspired these moments of reflection. Perhaps that was God’s only purpose for them all along; but something tells me God had more in mind. God’s happenings always contain more than they seem.

God’s plan for our own lives contains more than it seems. Silent powers fly above our heads, unseen treasures lie beneath our feet, hidden thoughts live within our minds, unleashed strength resides in our hands, and untapped love lies buried in our hearts.

And God’s plan for you…?

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.

As the rain and the snow

come down from heaven,

and do not return to it

without watering the earth

and making it bud and flourish,

so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

It will not return to me empty,
