John 14:6
Lots of organizations need people like Craig. He could be found almost anywhere volunteer services were needed. He could be found reading with underprivileged children, serving meals to the hungry and marshalling crowds at sporting events. And the organizations he served could not function without people like him.
Churches are usually listed as places of worship; they are also often referenced as charitable organizations. Indeed, churches are places to worship, and they are known to provide charitable services; but on a larger scale, the Church is more than a place or a benevolent organization. Paul describes it this way, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)And Peter reminds us that, “you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9) So, Church is not just a place we go or something we volunteer to help with when time permits. The Church is a body we are a part of.
We applaud Craig and others like him for volunteering part of their time to the causes that pull at their heartstrings. To them volunteering is part of life and their contribution toward a better world. But we also applaud them because they understand that everything they do each day of their life is in service to our Lord and Savior. For them it isn’t voluntary as time allows.
It’s the way of life as God intended.
You are the light of the world,
Richard +
