Deuteronomy 4:9-10
“So, what are your takeaways from this conference?” my new friend asked. The question sent my mind through a laundry list of possible answers. There I was in a place outside my comfort zone still wondering why I was even attending a Christian writers’ conference, and then someone asked about my takeaways.
Takeaways are learning experiences. I heard family histories that served as reminders of stories about my own life, tragedies that taught lessons from what happened to others, and heartwarming stories that emphasized the value of honoring family traditions and practicing Christian values. I found encouragement from those blessed with writing successes, and inspiration from those with dreams still unmet.
We all have stories to tell, and someone out there needs to hear them. The conference was for writers, but the medium is unimportant. The stories are!
We may write about them or speak about them, and sometimes we may even illustrate them. But through whatever medium we choose, stories we share will become takeaways that serve as reminders, teach lessons, and encourage wholesome living.
That’s why God asks us to tell them.
