Ultimate Pilot

            I boarded the plane and routinely nestled into my seat then watched the passengers file to their seats one-by-one. In the waiting area their body language signaled insights into the emotions of some of them, but I knew little more about any of them except the destination we shared and that they displayed little concern for the safety of the flight. Yet, from our seats none of us could see what lay ahead. We couldn’t see if storms were gathering before us, if there might be obstacles forming in our path, or if the vital functions of the plane were working properly. We couldn’t even see the pilot seated in the cockpit, yet we had faith in his presence there, and confidence that his hands were on the controls to deliver us home.

            In daily life, I feel stress when my hands aren’t placed squarely on the controls, or I can’t see where I’m going or the obstacles to overcome along the way. It’s strange how I have such confidence in myself most of the time, in other people some of the time, but display so little faith in God. After all, He is the Ultimate Pilot.

            Though we may not see Him seated in the cockpit, God carries us with people we never met, to places we could not go, over obstacles we could not overcome.

            Peace rests in our faith that God is ever present with us, His hands are always on the controls, and his inestimable love will deliver us safely Home.
