March 17th, 2024So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Chariots of Fire
He expected a peaceful morning; but the servant’s eyes widened, and his throat tightened at the sight of chariots all around, and an army mounted and ready for battle. “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?” the servant asked.
“Don’t be afraid,” the [Elisha] answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
And Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (2 Kings 6:15-17)
Then, God blinded the enemy in answer to prayer, and Elisha led the invading army away to another land. There the enemy became captives themselves and could no longer threaten the city. In his fear, the servant could see neither the presence of God nor envision the protection God provided them.
In our walk through this life, mountainous roadways impose blockades to our goals. But when we direct our eyes beyond the visible, God opens our eyes to find chariots of fire to defend us from the greatest of our troubles, and hills full of horses waiting to carry us to victories we never dreamed.
Maybe we should talk to God about it. Elisha did.
