Romans 8:14-15
Does any man feel prepared to become a father when his first child is born. The only hint of training for it comes from the perspective of a child for his father—a father who likely felt just as lost. But there is a lesson in that. The better father your grandfather was, the better father your dad will likely be. So, it follows that the better dad your father was the better dad you will likely become. As the saying goes: “When you teach your children, you teach your children’s children.” Feeling any pressure?
Then there is another lesson in fatherhood. I named my father Daddy. My sons called me Daddy too until they shortened it to Dad. There’s something warmly accessible about that name. It says there is always a lap to crawl into and a place to go in times of need.
Jesus called his Father “Abba.” Like “daddy,” it says there is always a lap to crawl into and a place to go when there’s a need.
Need help with fatherhood? Follow the Spirit of God, receive the sonship, then…
crawl into your Abba’s lap.
You are the light of the world,
