1 Peter 1:15-16
(Refreshed from the Archives of June 9, 2013)
Dawn filtering through the windows casts a golden glow about the home. Nothing seems unlike other days, but this one is different. No other day has ever been or will ever be exactly like it. It is set apart. It is holy.
Only God is holy we think. But if only God is holy, why did He ask us to be holy? Does God ask us to be something more than He made us to be? Isn’t your life set apart from all others? No other will ever be like it. It is holy.
When one pauses to consider why God placed them on this earth, do they find that God has asked them to blend into the crowd, to become like everyone else? Or do they discover that God made them special, set apart, holy?
Day after day, we find ourselves in pursuit of food to sustain us, shelter to protect us, and knowledge that will help us grow. We see successes others enjoy and seek to be like them. And we rear our children to be the best they can be, all the while teaching them to be like we are. But our creator set us apart from all the others, and He set apart our children too.
Today might you be set apart to express love to someone dear and to forgive someone who has hurt you deeply? Today might you be set apart to bring joy to those with saddened hearts and to feed those in need of nourishment? Today might you be set apart to lead those who are lost, or to care for those in need? Today are you set apart for those special things that didn’t get done yesterday and to ask forgiveness of those you mistreated or overlooked? Today you are holy, set apart to be who God made you to be.
God set you apart to cast a golden glow into the world that only you can bring.
He said so.
You are the light of the world,
Richard +
