Today is like any other. Reflection on yesterday’s failures and successes collide head-on with wonder and anticipation of tomorrow. It’s a time between what has already been and what is yet to come.
Life rides on the train of time, continuously moving us on our journeys through this world. It carries us through days, weeks, months, seasons, years, and stages of life. It never slows when entering a new place nor pauses for lookbacks at places we have been. Those times between the end of something and the beginning of something new must be discerned within the journey. But pay attention to them. They shape your life. Indeed, the actions you take from what they teach becomes your life!
The train of time begins its run with a season called Preparation where babes through teens in their formative years prepare for life’s performance. Next it runs through a season named Performance to call upon the energy and strength of young adults while it develops their abilities to lead others. It passes through a season called Leading where guiding others also helps leaders hone their own gifts for their next season. Its name is Wisdom for the skill of applying knowledge to satisfy human need. Preparation, Performance, Leading, and Wisdom comprise seasons of life. The train of life travels through them all.
God placed the boy Samuel under the tutelage of Eli who taught him to listen for the Lord. He took Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son, to work as a slave while preparing him to lead Egypt through difficult times. Overwhelmed by his workload, Moses listened to his father-in-law and learned to delegate. And Solomon gained wisdom by heeding his father’s advice to, “…observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go…” (1 Kings 2:3)
God placed each of us on a unique track, riding the train of time through life’s seasons. He teaches lessons through our seasons of life to keep us on track or return us to it. Wisdom and power are his.
But discernment is ours to choose.
You are the light of the world,
