In the beginning… Let there be… And thus it all began. It’s hard to imagine the beginning of God’s creation—all from nothing. Even nothing is unimaginable. Mankind wasn’t here then. When first awakened into the world, Light highlighted a blue painted sky, trees enlivened by rustling leaves and birds chirping melodies from the branches while nearby streams bubbled from the ground stirred by fish swimming within them, insects flying above them, and animals of all kinds refreshing themselves in the coolness. And mankind had the task to name them all—to care for them all.
The Bible doesn’t tell of it, but somewhere in the beginning God must have also said, “Let there be words for man to speak, and write, and think, and dream; and let an alphabet be a paint brush to portray the words so the world may know I AM.”
But mankind became enamored with itself when Satan disguised as a serpent used the tree named Knowledge of Good and Evil to charm them into eating its forbidden fruit. Since then mankind has been conflicted between seeking to be I am and in search of peace in I AM.
So God set out to redirect mankind. How would we know pain unless it struck us? How would we feel peace unless taken from us? Why would we turn our eyes in search of I AM unless we found no peace by turning them toward each other? So, He created more paint brushes to portray words in different languages to confuse mankind and push them away from each other. He wrote laws to set forth his expectations, but more to reveal the failings within us; and when we stubbornly stuck to our own desires to make ourselves supreme, He sent the Light into the world to guide us—to save us.
The Guiding Light shines on peace. “Peace I leave you; my peace I give you.” Peace is what mankind truly seeks. Peace in the world, and peace in our own lives. Peace we would seek only by feeling the absence of it. Peace that transcends all understanding—peace found in the Good Shepherd who leads the Way to the Truth and the Life and to the Gate through which only his sheep may enter to receive his grace.
Peace is not hidden somewhere within or among ourselves. It’s not hidden at all. Peace has been there from the beginning, where the Light shines. I AM is so brightly lit our eyes don’t dare look. But peace isn’t found by seeing it.
Peace is the gift received by living in the Light of our Savior.
You are the light of the world,
