I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20

Just Show Up…

Maybe we make it too hard. When Jesus charged us with The Great Commission, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” and we come to accept that he intended each of us are to be disciple makers, we become a bit overwhelmed.   The logical next step is for us to go in search of activities and programs that will introduce Christ into the workplace or other spheres within our influence. Whether dutifully or energetically, we seek to produce an experience that will reveal Christ and be transformational to those around us.  But maybe we don’t need to do anything so profound.
It occurs to me that Jesus made it really very simple for us. All we need to do is enter the workplace (or anywhere else) and Jesus enters with us. Jesus told us that when we remain in him that He is in us.   So by our own mere presence in the workplace, Christ is there also.
It is true enough that our being there may not make Christ’s presence recognizable, but that should not be troubling either. Even the men on the Emmaus road didn’t recognize him until He broke bread with them; and neither did Mary Magdalene identify him until He spoke to her directly. And as for transformation, well that can happen after we are gone just as it did with the Apostles on Pentecost.
Bringing Christ into the workplace is easy. There surely are times and places when it is appropriate to draw attention to his presence through activities and programs, but there are also times when there is no need to show off. Just show up and Christ enters too, “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory,” (2 Cornthians 3:18).
This week let’s be mindful of Jesus in our hearts everywhere we go. That’s how…

You are the light of the world.”
