Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Sending Roses

Valentine’s Day has come and gone. It is always a day with love in the air. It is amazing to see the lines in the stores. People stand in line to find just that special little remembrance that will express “I love you” in just the right way. One of those ways is sending roses.
It is always curious to me why we choose a single day of the year to celebrate love. Is it because we don’t remember to send reminders of our love on other days? Maybe too many of us just take our loved ones for granted and even on those special days when we send roses, we do it out of obligation and not from the heart. Everyone needs to be loved, and everyone yearns to hear those three little words.
I think that God is also hungry to hear us say, “I love you.” I think that is what God was seeking when He gave Moses all of those laws, especially the laws of sacrifice. As you recall, sacrifices were done in the temple twice a day. The sacrifices were for the cleansing of sins, but there is no separation of the cleansing sacrifices from the reminder to God that we love Him. It was like sending roses. And don’t you think that is the main point God had in mind anyway? The sacrifices were just another way of telling God, “I love you.”
Several years ago we shared the following with our family. We call it The Secret.
God blessed us by:
Joining us together many years ago;
Giving us two wonderful sons;
Providing strength when we lost our fathers and battled cancer;
Giving us all of you, our loving family;
Giving us today.
We have loved each other; we have faced our troubles.
We are happy because we choose to be.
We honor each other; and say “I love you,” everyday.
And the secret to The Secret is saying I love you everyday.
It’s better than sending roses.
